Where’s the music at?

Posted: March 11, 2012 in 2012, March

First post of the year! I’m really not a good blogger…

But I guess it was about time with an update. The songs are coming, though I’m already behind my personal schedule of releasing something once a month. When I get some time off, I’ll try to get some recordings done.

Still, I should post something interesting.

So I finally got around to it and recorded a new song. Yay!  Hopefully, It’s well worth the wait.

No new decently recorded song in this post either…and there’s a reason for that. Here’s the thing, I’ve been preoccupied with catching this cute little guest.

By the way, I caught him in the end using the paper roll trick. A full description can be found here.

I released him back to nature, somewhere that seemed suitable. I also left him a bag of nuts that would probably last him all winter. So all is good!

Burglar Guy

It’s been awhile since I last posted (mostly because of the release of Fifa 12 last month and the latest Kirby game, I’ve been quite occupied).
Otherwise not much news apart from the fact that somebody broke into my place last weekend! You can see on the picture that the door is busted. Not cool! But since I don’t have anything valuable, nothing was taken…that must of been a bummer for somebody somewhere.

Anyway I hope to get around recording some stuff before the year is over. In the meantime, I did another “Sit Down Session” inspired by recent events.

Slow music month

Posted: September 26, 2011 in 2011, September

I like to post a new song every month, but there’ll be none this month and I’m not too sure if I’ll get the chance to record anything next month either. I’m kind of redecorating so I don’t have anywhere to record properly. Don’t worry, the songs are coming…I usually demo stuff onto my phone and it’s starting to get full. There’s a lot of dumb stuff on there since I demo everything, It could be something I think of while walking down the street or me banging away on the walls. At the moment I’ve got over 900 sound clips, anything from 10s to 3min. So there should be a decent song in there somewhere! (hopefully)

Since starting this blog and my “band” in May I’ve posted five songs and three videos. So that’s a song a month, all in all not too bad I guess. Take into account that I also won a monthly prize in BA’s song contest, it’s been a pretty good start to Beards Aren’t Punk?

BTW here are some recommendations of releases I’ve enjoyed so far this year. Maybe you’ll like them as well.

Direct Hit! – Domesplitter

Bomb The Music Industry! – Vacation

Mister Heavenly – Out Of Love

Tech N9ne – All 6′s And 7′s

Me First And The Gimme Gimmes – Sing In Japanese

Until next time.

7% Winning!

Posted: September 14, 2011 in 2011, September

Thanks again for voting, I won! BA

Like I said before these kind of internet polls are so flaw that I don’t really feel like a worthy winner.

So here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to share a third of the prize with the band that didn’t win anything. A quarter will go to my local music school so they can buy some equipment, cables or what ever. A little more than a third I’ll donate to charity. That leaves me with 7% for myself. I guess that sounds about right.

Internal popularity contest

Posted: August 23, 2011 in 2011, August

In my last post I asked for some votes, or rather for you to go over to BA and listen through the songs there. Then vote for your favourite. Thanks if you voted for me, I really appreciate it!

But I have an issue with this contest, because it has nothing to do with people discovering new music. It’s all about which one has the most internet friends. From the get go I knew it was going to come down to what I would call an “internal popularity contest”. I thought I won’t play that game and just let people listen and vote…well that wasn’t happening.
Early on I checked the stats and the answer was clear:
- There were 424 votes that had been received.
- I had 7,5% of the votes which is the equivalent of 32 votes.
- My song had been played 61 times. (remember, some of these plays could be from the same person. Myself included)
- So that would conclude at least 363 people voted without even giving the song a listen.

Game on! I still want people to listen to all of the songs, but don’t vote for your favourite. Vote for me! Why? Because I’m asking…
Does this sound wrong to you? Yes it does!? Good for you, I agree.
But I want those votes so I can win and point this out to them!

Luckily my previous projects have an arsenal of “friends” on Myspace. I wanted to keep away from doing this, but it was pointed out to me that doing the right thing doesn’t always work. So this weekend I’ve been sending out message after message after message after message… I feel like a fucking spambot!

And it’s all paying off. I’m doing well in the contest at the moment and guess what? I’m not stopping! I’m going to go all overboard with this just to prove a point! But at what cost? Weekend already wasted…all this work and time I should be spending on doing something productive.

Does that mean I deserve to win? HELL NO!
In all honesty I would rather see my song being played a thousand times with no votes. At least then people genuinely hate it. And at the end of the day motivate me to write a song that’s better.
