In my last post I asked for some votes, or rather for you to go over to BA and listen through the songs there. Then vote for your favourite. Thanks if you voted for me, I really appreciate it!
But I have an issue with this contest, because it has nothing to do with people discovering new music. It’s all about which one has the most internet friends. From the get go I knew it was going to come down to what I would call an “internal popularity contest”. I thought I won’t play that game and just let people listen and vote…well that wasn’t happening.
Early on I checked the stats and the answer was clear:
- There were 424 votes that had been received.
- I had 7,5% of the votes which is the equivalent of 32 votes.
- My song had been played 61 times. (remember, some of these plays could be from the same person. Myself included)
- So that would conclude at least 363 people voted without even giving the song a listen.
Game on! I still want people to listen to all of the songs, but don’t vote for your favourite. Vote for me! Why? Because I’m asking…
Does this sound wrong to you? Yes it does!? Good for you, I agree.
But I want those votes so I can win and point this out to them!
Luckily my previous projects have an arsenal of “friends” on Myspace. I wanted to keep away from doing this, but it was pointed out to me that doing the right thing doesn’t always work. So this weekend I’ve been sending out message after message after message after message… I feel like a fucking spambot!
And it’s all paying off. I’m doing well in the contest at the moment and guess what? I’m not stopping! I’m going to go all overboard with this just to prove a point! But at what cost? Weekend already wasted…all this work and time I should be spending on doing something productive.
Does that mean I deserve to win? HELL NO!
In all honesty I would rather see my song being played a thousand times with no votes. At least then people genuinely hate it. And at the end of the day motivate me to write a song that’s better.
